Jesus told us that our faith is based on those two principles. As Episcopalians we are devoted to growing in our relationships with God and with each other. Our lives are never-ending journeys of spiritual growth. The Episcopal Church is dedicated to supporting all of us in our personal journeys.
In the two thousand years since the time of Jesus, we have developed a wide range of practices and traditions that support our growth. Our weekly services are grounded in the Bible. Visitors often are surprised to learn that almost all of the words we speak together can be traced to Biblical sources. The Book of Common Prayer, which we use in our services, is devoted to the idea that as Episcopalians we gather to pray and worship God together. Everything about our services, such as our music and even church architecture, support us in our spiritual journeys rather than being ends in themselves.
Our faith tradition is grounded in community and mutual support, rather than insisting on uniformity of belief. We believe that the Bible contains all that is necessary for salvation. We follow the teachings of the Apostles’ and Nicene Creeds, and we believe in the Trinity. We believe in the two sacraments instituted by Jesus, Baptism and the Eucharist (Holy Communion), and in the resurrection and eternal life. But the history of Christianity shows us that the ideas embedded in these gifts from God can mean different things to different people depending on their personal histories and circumstances. We believe that being followers of Jesus means that we support each other while giving everyone enough space for genuine, meaningful growth. We believe that following the teachings of Jesus provides the foundation for a meaningful, satisfying, and good life. If these things interest you, we happily welcome you to our church, regardless of where you are on your life’s path.
